Second flood in a week has owners contemplating a move.
The second of two major floods this week at Adams Morgan vinyl vendor Crooked Beat has owner Bill Daly rethinking his store's present location. "We'll most likely be announcing that we will be moving the store to a new location by the end of the year," Daly told TVD in an email yesterday. "We have no idea where that location may be, but we would like to stay in DC. This flood today was the 22nd water related problem we have had with the store since 2004. I can not say much more except that our landlord has not been on top of fixing problems related to our building."
Crooked Beat has been closed since last Thursday when a sewer backup caused damage estimated to be in the thousands to the in-house stock of vinyl. A number of CDs, fixtures, equipment, posters and mailing supplies were also damaged. "Our patience has worn thin with our landlord" added Daly.

Holy crap!
And here i was, feasting on the bones of Orpheus this weekend when I could've been saving precious vinyl children over at Crooked Beat!
All kidding aside, this is wretched news. I certainly don't blame Daly for moving the shop, but GOD I hope it's still within walking distance, wherever he ends up.
Me, selfish? Oh hell yes.
Walking distance? I hear that...
Methinks the old Candida's Books location at 14th & Q could be ideal...
Jeezus don't play with my emotions like that...
14th & Q would be even more walking-distance-er! And close enough to SOM for them to indulge in an occasional cross-record-store food fight...
I'm just tossing out ideas here. That spot would be IDEAL.
Hi-
Holly from Crooked Beat here.
Just to clear things up: We are currently OPEN.
Unfortunately, the store flooded again on Saturday. As of now, we have no plans to close the store, but we are actively looking for a new location.
If you know of any good spots (or are/have a friend in real estate), shoot us an email. We will keep you updated via email and our web site as to our future plans.
Hey Holly...thanks for the update.
As I mentioned above, that spot at 14th & Q where Candida's was is pretty cool. Not sure if it's leased yet...it's been vacant for a while now.
I'd shop there at the expense of my own health..... if that helps make the case...
