TVD Fresh Track | Keegan Snaize

Aw, c'mon...you've never heard of Keegan Snaize? Well, I hadn't either until this little Neil Finn-like gem landed in my in-box last weekend.

"Venus In Transit was written during an unexpectedly long stay on an island in the South Pacific - after becoming fascinated with tribal rhythms and Polynesian harmonies, we traveled around collecting stories, poems and old synthesizers and wove them into our own song.

A tale of lost love, unfulfilled promises and heavenly bodies, "Venus" is a band favourite and features beautiful harmonies from Hayley Hutchinson."

And it's wonderful indeed. Grab the full release here!

So, tomorrow I turn 25. I don't know what it all "means." In my 25 years of life, I feel like I have had many life changing experiences that have led me to where I am today and that mainly involves the people who are or were in my life.

People is what it's all about, your family, friends, lovers, etc. Even the random people you meet, they all have connections to you and help mold the person you become. I don't know what all those connections mean but I know that they will continue to mold me until hopefully well in to old age.

I've always loved music. I get it from my mother. She used to quiz me about what oldie was playing on the radio. I grew to love music but it wasn't until my first concert that I really fell in love. I was 18 and it was 2003 Warped Tour. I have come a long way in my musical taste since those days.

My love affair with The National began three years ago, right after college. They were the beginning of my new appreciation for music, getting away from the main stream and the whine of emo kids crying about girlfriends or singing about getting high. The National opened my eyes to new depths of instrumentation and lyrics. What first caught my attention was their sound. The layers of sound that could make me feel so many things. Then it was Matthew's voice. It was different than what I was used to but I loved it. Then the lyrics. Sometimes I don't understand them but others are so clear.

I associate The National with people. Real people. I see them as regular guys who sit around with friends and drink good red wine on a Saturday night. My kind of people.

I've grown a lot since I met The National. And they're a part of my connections, of the people that make me who i am. Music helps shape me and my ideas, helps me to feel things on a more intense level or just laugh and have fun and let go.

I didn't get to see them last night at DAR but I was very fortunate to see them at the 930 club last year. They were amazing. One of my favorite shows. Their new album is fantastic on so many levels it's hard to know where to start.

I've rambled quite a bit, but the bottom line is that I don't know what it all means but I know one day I might figure it out and i know who will have helped me get there, all my friends and family the music that inspires me. I look forward to a lot more musical growth and the new connections I will make.

Tomorrow I'll be 25. Wouldn't High Violet on vinyl be the perfect gift? :)

Thanks so much for all your writing and fabulous music tips. Just reading your blog has opened my ears to even more fantastic music. Not sure if you actually read all of this but thanks for reading anyway.
