TVD wants your choices for the Best & the Worst of '09 (...and we've got some records to give away.)

Every day without fail, there's no shortage of half-baked opinions here at TVD. And trust me, they'd be fully-baked if I could locate my dealer. (Hey XXXX - please get in touch - thanks!)

And while we hope for your feedback throughout the year on any given rant, this week we're asking for it in a more formalized setting as we invite you to offer your best of the best or the worst of the worst for '09.

It needn't even be in regard to vinyl or music. Why, give us your tired, your poor, your existential angst—and hell, you may even win a prize.

Courtesy of our friends at Factory 25, we've got a LP/DVD copy of Rosie Thomas''All the Way from Michigan Not Mars' featuring intimate live performances with fellow songwriters Sufjan Stevens and Denison Witmer and the DVD of the movie and soundtrack LP to 'Frownland' which the New York Times' Manohla Dargas raved as "...personal cinema at its most uncompromising and fierce" for ONE commenter on the year soon to expire who hits some sort of home run or grace note in the comments to this post.

Please remember to leave us some contact info (important!) and we'll choose our winner on Monday, January 4, 2010 as to kick your year off on a certified high.

(And, hey XXXX - please get in touch - thanks!)

WORST. Just heard this on the radio this morning. U2 had the highest grossing tour of 2009. Stop the madness already and someone please shut up Bono (mind you I'm not advocating any form violence here, maybe just a twenty-year case of laryngitis).

Neal Becton (Som Records)

Worst: Drunken Beckies requesting Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.

Best: Animal Collective, Flaming Lips, Edward Sharpe and numerous Numero comps."

Best: The Beatles Mono Box. If for no other reason, it got me to sit and actually *listen hard* to The Beatles for the first time in quite a while. Wow.

Worst: The Beatles Mono Box, simply for re-igniting my Ebay obsession with tracking down the vinyl. My wallet hates that.

Unrelated: Oh, How I used to love that Deep Purple album in the pic.

Sit tight D...I hear the remastered vinyl is set for a summer 2010 release. Fingers crossed...

Thanks for the tip, but the collector-dork in me craves the original artifacts, even with a little wear-and-tear. I'm not a huge fan of vinyl reissues, even if they do sound amazing.

Gotcha on that 100%, trust me.

I've just been holding back buying those damn CDs while waiting on the vinyl. I do have a complete original Beatles set...

My favorite record of 2009 would have to be Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest.

I'm ridiculously excited for the January 4, 2010 reissue of Elliott Smith's Roman Candle on vinyl. Also hoping for vinyl remasters of the Beatles records. Can't bring myself to buy the CDs.

BEST MAJOR ALBUM RELEASE:

Them Crooked Vultures - 'Them Crooked Vultures'
What can I say, I am a fan of the huge rock sound. I also love that funky, crunchy bass. People can say that it's just a derivative of all their sound and doesn't really add much, but that's one hell of a derivative. It's a bit of a sloppy album, but in a good way. It's a sloppy that I can like.

BEST INDIE RELEASE:

M. Bison - "M. Bison"
This is fantastic debut album from a Seattle band that I've loved since I first heard their earlier EP, 'Not Bad'. They seem to be able to take the best sounds from Ben Folds & Weezer to form a excellent album. It's got a very healthy mix of synth and heavy guitars. Just when you think you've got their sound pinned down, they throw a change-up(lol. baseball reference) at you.

BEST RE-RELEASED ALBUM:

Beck - 'One Foot In The Grave (Expanded Edition)'
This album comes from a time before heavy computer sample Beck. This is a very true folk rock album. Simple sounds, simple songs. The added bonus tracks more than double the original run time. And even better, they add an excellent depth to the album. It's an already great album that's improved upon with even more fantastic songs, which is why it gets my vote.

Oh, and Happy New Year!
