TVD | Wavelength

Not to jump to too many premature conclusions with our 'fresh ears on New Wave' thesis this week, but ...uh. I had a hard time finding five more that were out and out crap. (And why make Spandau Ballet our whipping boys, right?)

So, five more freshly (re)picked from a fine vine.

Ultravox - All Stood Still (Mp3)
Comsat Angels - Independence Day (Mp3)
Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach (Mp3)
Frazier Chorus - Dream Kitchen (Mp3)
The Korgis - Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometimes (Mp3)

Let me help...
Tonil Basil: Mickey
Duran Duran: The Reflex
Wham!: Wake me up before you Go Go
Duran Duran: View to a Kill
Falco: Rock me Amadeus
The Bangles: Walk like an Egyptian

By the way all these songs share one thing in common: they all went to #1 in the US. Shamus

Oh and I kinda think Echo Beach is fine song. IMHO of course. Really TVD you think it's bad?

That's a fine list Shamus - must be why you're in Japan now, huh?

For the record - I don't have those records to pick from. All awful, indeed.

And today's list are tunes I think still hold up...

First time poster here ... stumbled on your blog and love it, the smell of vinyl in the morning and all that ... and in addition, thanks to your post/twitter, have also now discovered Echoes in the Wind so thanks for that as well ...

But gotta admit I can't really think of the Korgis as New Wave because they were an outcropping of one of my favorite bands, Stackridge, who were definitely NOT New Wave (more nouveau-Beatles right down to George Martin producing). So I can't put them in the suckage department with, say, "Rock Me Amadeus" etc. ...

I'm sorry, Jon ... that will teach me to try to post and think at the same time :)

I feel better now ...

So do you happen to have any old Stackridge vinyl laying around? Definitely worth a listen ...

Hm - maybe I wasn't clear in the post...

And I'd never heard of Stackridge. Off to ebay right now...
