So, you're saying to yourself, Record Store Day 2009 is quickly approaching--but whatever will I wear?
Well, TVD's one step ahead of you.
In celebration of RSD09, TVD has partnered with Worn Free -- purveyors of a ridiculously cool line of shirts that indeed rock -- to wheedle you out of your wardrobe dilemma. Here's the schpiel:
"Worn Free reproduces original tees famously worn by such rock legends as John Lennon, Joey Ramone, Frank Zappa, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, Gram Parsons, Johnny Ramone and Joan Jett, among others – and regularly adds fantastic new images (of fantastic old shirts) to its catalog.
Celebrating punk fury, hippie utopianism, psychedelic excess and art-pop whimsy – not to mention the eye-popping graphics of celebrated artists like John Van Hamersveld – Worn Free shirts express the insurrectionary spirit of rock and roll in all its forms.
We’ve spent more than a decade combing worldwide photo archives of music and style icons, learning what they’ve been wearing and bringing it straight to you.
The tag inside each shirt is a sticker resembling a backstage pass, featuring either a photo of a rock star wearing the original shirt or a rendering of the design, with information documenting its initial date, artist and venue.
But despite their stellar images, these are no museum pieces. Made of fine, luxuriously soft cotton, Worn Free shirts are also decadently comfortable – and fit like your old favorites the first time you slip them on."
...and they come with the TVD stamp of approval. How can ya go wrong?
So, in a blatant attempt to get you to visit the site and peruse the T's, TVD and Worn Free will award two winners one shirt a piece! All you need to do is choose the design you wish to sport from their selection and post a comment as to why we should have your back on this one. Wordy, insightful, or damn funny comments appreciated.
We're also fully aware that TVD's readership is pretty darn global, so no matter where you're tuning us in, we'll send you the shirt for your effervescent commentary. Got that?
We'll choose two winners this coming Monday (4/6) so check out the site and get to commenting! You'll see some really cool designs from some pretty unexpected sources...

I just saw Uncle Jesse in a Dragon T-shirt so my cool detector might be broken for a few days. Those t-shirts were a little bit awesome though.
It's a tough call for me but I am going to have to go with the Indian T-shirt that has the Japanese empire sun behind his head. (The John Van Hamerveld one on page 3). I really like all of his stuff. The endless summer movie was a staple of mine as a child.
I guess I'd want an XL but I'm not sure. Will these shirts shrink or are they pre-shrunk?
Thanks as always!

Ooooo How does one choose? I kinda like the Joey Ramone NYC shirt since it's my hometown, and I remember seeing Joey Ramone at NYC clubs when I was way to young to be going to those clubs. But I do love the John Lennon YOU ARE HERE shirt because...wherever you go, there you are ;) cheesy and silly but true :) I'd probably pick the John Lennon one.

I spent most of my formative years trying to get into Debbie Harry's shirt.
The heady mix of imagination and hormones (not to mention incense and peppermints) blazed the trail of teenage frustration and white knuckles.
French kissing in a grey working class Yorkshire suburb.
Lost inside adorable illusion ... Debbie, oh Debbie ... I would give YOU my finest hour ... albeit 59 minutes of mumbled apologising.
Power, passion plays a double hand ... toward a skyful of thunder or a damp squib?
One peer over your sunglasses and you can read my hand, I've got no defence.
Oh oh, what are we gonna do? Could those hands of time reverse the direction our lives have gone?
Hardly.
My chest hairs are grey, the pecs out of time. Not to worry; perhaps I could re-arrange my mind - and still be your Union City man.
The first time I heard Debbie Harry I was 15, and by this I mean really listening to her voice and not just the over-sung One Way Or Another. My oldest girl cousin had come up from Miami to visit me, her baby cousin stuck in suburban Georgia hell, and had brought an impresive stack of CD's with the intent of educating me on the topic of good music.
When the Blondie portion of our lesson came up, she simply turned the volume up louder and we danced/thrashed around my bedroom and I was hooked. I already had had a passion for 70s punk, but was limited to mohawked male singers, rarely did I actually enjoy hearing a girl-fronted punk band. She was pretty with a style easily copied in my modern time that still managed to get me in trouble with school administration (always a plus in my eyes).
The woman is my hero.
So I choose the Debbie Harry Punk t-shirt and will spend the rest of today playing old Blondie songs loudly out of nostalgia.

It has to be the Steve Marriott "Broken Heart" shirt. One of the most influential musicians who sadly too few people remember.

I've been trying to complete my collection of Joan Jett Worn Free t-shirts. There were only two left that I needed. Looks like I was too late to get the Brum Rock Shirt (no longer available), so I would love to have the Joan Jett Peacock Shirt. Joan has rocked my world with the Blackhearts and The Runaways for almost 35 years now. Thanks for all the great music over the years, Joanie. Also, thanks to Worn Free for recognizing Joan's influence in the music industry.

I am hungry. And I love the Flying Burrito Brothers shirt of Chris Hillmans.
"I respect your play style, I expect the same in return. I will play my game, I will do my best. I will not dumb my play down for others, I will not apologize for my game. I play to win and I will do it with honor. I think to do less is compromising my beliefs, will achieve nothing, and has achieved nothing." --Cilio
