TVD's Eleven Weeks of Record Store Day Vinyl Giveaways | Week 7! (#2!)

Blabbermouth has the scoop on the LP for Week 7 of TVD's Eleven Weeks of Record Store Day Vinyl Giveaways: THIN LIZZY's seminal double live album "Live & Dangerous" is consistently featured in polls as one of the greatest live albums of all time. Yet it is not really a live record at all as it features overdubs and post-production across the album. March 2, 2009 sees the release of the "Still Dangerous", the real "Live & Dangerous"!

"Still Dangerous" is the raw, unadulterated, untouched sound of THIN LIZZY at the absolute height of its powers. Recorded on the band's sold-out 1977 "Bad Reputation" tour, "Still Dangerous" captures the classic quartet of Lynott, Downey, Gorham and Robertson on fire at the celebrated Tower Theatre in Philadelphia.

The album features tracks that never made the "Live & Dangerous" release and all cuts are previously unreleased. The album was mixed by the legendary Glyn Johns (THE ROLLING STONES, THE WHO, THE EAGLES, LED ZEPPELIN), with contributions from Scott Gorham and Brian Downey.

"Still Dangerous" is the definitive live statement from one of rock's most revered and enduring groups. The recordings that make up "Still Dangerous" were discovered by accident in an overlooked band lockup — a happy accident for THIN LIZZY fans and music fans in general as it is set to become an essential addition to the legacy of one of rocks greatest ever acts. The album is fully endorsed by Phil Lynott's estate and the band.

Update: Our pal Jeff over at AM, Then FM has a review (and an Mp3!) of the LP right here. Thanks Jeff!

You've got to be kidding?! Hardly anyone pontificating profundities about the eternal greatness of Phil 'n The Boys?! Well, I'll take that lantern in the darkness of apathy because Thin Lizzy is a pure distillation of raw rawk 'n rollin' greatness - the archetypal type that mines riffy alchemy, brawny, snarlin' vocals and back-to-back dualing lead guitarists shining the best for the back row.

Lizzy live in '77? Remember US folks, we lost out seeing the band live because of hepatitis w/ Phil so the band was *hungry*, ready and breaking the States. Not heard this one yet, but it's a corker, most assuredly.

All these live reissues coming out the last 9 months or so w/ Thin Lizzy are manna from the RAWK GODZ - take 'em in, revitalize your jaded, tired, cynical rock 'n roll soul and let that Lizzy Light in.

Dude! Lizzy in '77?? I was there. The Chicago show I saw was with openers The Dictators (!!) and AC/DC (!!!). I have the ticket stub somewhere.

Matter of fact, just last night, I was turning my son onto Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed. Great groove that band had.

Like many people my main impression of Thin Lizzy was based on their two (admittedly great) singles, "Jailbreak" and "The Boys are Back in Town." Then sometime around 1986 I found a cassette tape copy of "Live and Dangerous" in a discount bin somewhere.

Good Lawdy Miss Clawdy, I loved that record ... played it in the car over and over and over until the tape stretched out and heated up and became basically useless.

Cassette tape - now there is a format that hopefully will not stage a comeback. Unfortunately my car is so old that it still only has a tape player - no CD. So i still listen to some of my old tapes (thank God i don't drive much). Hopefully I'll win this great record so I can make a new tape for the car ...

I loved this band and followed them through Chinatown. Phil was a superb frontman with a great voice. Jailbreak had one of my favorite LP covers!
