oh my god - that is so sad, really, really sad
I first saw John Martyn on BBC2 on a 'late night jazz' type program (necer been able to track it down) back in around 1989 - he was wearing a big lapelled , brown pinstripe doubel breasted suit, standing alone with a gibson SG and some effect boxes playing his songs in a studio. Fantastic. Some of his work was melancholy but he produced some wonderful work despite his long battle with booze.
