Each morning I wake at 6:30am, check some headlines, and then mull over the blog posts for the day. I was struck by the notion this morning while the coffee was sputtering and brewing that, y'know - the thing about the Sex Pistols for me, and this era of punk in general is that it was truly the last time I can think of when people were "shocked and/or offended" by the antics of a bunch of snot-nose kids. Those days are over, really--the river's run dry. Then I sat down to put some hazy thoughts together and shocked myself--"Holy...this'll be the 500th post...!" And all of this from one lazy morning as the coffee sputtered and brewed.

Dunno why, (lend me $700 million) but I just thought of a couple of songs from '78 called 'Money, That's Your Problem' and 'The Drummer Man' by Tonight. Not sure if they made it over the big grey ocean, but worth a play for the skinny gauche energy.

Dear Jon, congrats on the 500th post. In the past couple of weeks since you invited me to contribute to your blog, I've been wading through the bottomless sea of old old archived posts and I have realized a few things. Firstly, I am dearly sorry that I haven't been reading since day one because I missed out on a helluva lotta great songs. Secondly, you are preternaturally brilliant. Thirdly, I think I understand and appreciate now the blog dedication and how it manifests over time in your posted songs and commentary. So I'm taking a minute to remember the past, look toward the future, and offer my deepest gratitude for everything... for teaching me quite a few things I missed out on (it's never too late?) and for letting me be a part of something truly awesome. THANK YOU!

Jon - Congratulations on the 500 mark. Radio, Radio certainly fits the occasion and is one of my all time favorite songs from that era. I remember watching him perform it on Saturday Night Live - what a sight!
