TVD's Daily Wax | The Stone Roses "The Stone Roses"

I had a whole week of TVD goodness in the queue until last night when over dinner at the HQ, a documentary on UK Indie was airing in the background and I thought to myself, "Man, that seems like it happened AGES ago." See, I was a pretty rabid Manchester/Indie fan back in the day. It was all Melody Maker/NME/Q for me over anything US-centric and expenditures on music skyrocketed as I fell hard and fast for all things baggy. But like all good musical trends, I beat it to death to the point where if I never heard two-thirds of those bands ever again, I'd be fine with it.

But I surprised myself last night in thinking I haven't listed to say, The Stone Roses for years and years. And another insight which follows on the heels of the last two weeks of posts, the first Roses LP came out in--'89! Why, The Stone Roses are an '80's band. For the life of me, I've never thought of them as such. Hm.

I purchased this record on the strength of the reviews alone never having heard a note. But as the opening of "I Wanna be Adored" swells up and the drums and that guitar line kick in, I fell right down the rabbit hole.

The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored (Mp3)
The Stone Roses - She Bangs The Drums (Mp3)
The Stone Roses - Waterfall (Mp3)
The Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection (Mp3)
The Stone Roses - Fools Gold (Mp3)

Thanks for these. I had a great holiday in 1989 when this album (along with George Best by The Wedding Present) was the soundtrack to the week.

Happy days.

Wow, I was listening to a track off their god-awful 2nd album just yesterday, 10 Story Love Song. Yes TSR, Primal's Screamadelica and Happy Monday's Pills were on such a stready rotation weren't they. All 3 cds still rate. Shamus

Okay I seriously, seriously love the Stone Roses! Incidentally, you left off my most favorite track: "Made of Stone." Under the right circumstances, when the moon is shining at just the right angle, that song can turn me into a blubbering, sobbing mess :( Thanks for sharing these wonderful tracks, totally wonderful selection! :D

Is it entirely ethical however to post the 5 biggest tracks off the album?

Yes, indeed. I trust the TVD readers--all excellent consumers--to preview here and then purchase. We're cheerleaders, not pirates.
