TVD's Daily Wax | Heart "Dreamboat Annie"

While visiting family and friends in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia this weekend I got a call from my best friend asking me if I wanted to see Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey on Tuesday night. Now, being a "baby of the eighties" I was never able to see any of these bands at the height of their fame, unlike my father who saw Heart and the Cars (among others) play at Denver's Mile High Stadium almost 30 years ago, so of course I quickly responded "YES!!!!!". Although Cheap Trick and Journey played a good set, I was absolutely amazed by Heart. Those Wilson sisters still have whatever caused them to sell millions of albums in the 70s and 80s. I think this was the first time I've ever seen a non-headliner come out for an encore (consisting of an excellent rendition of Zeppelin's Going to California). I have a few Heart albums and was debating which to put up here, but I think "Dreamboat Annie" is perfect because it showcases Nancy Wilson's fantastic acoustic guitar skills and Ann's ability to rock the socks off anyone- including Robert Plant who she is oft compared to.

Heart - Crazy On You (Mp3)
Heart - Dreamboat Annie (Mp3)
Heart - Magic Man (Mp3)
Heart - Sing Child (Mp3)
Heart - Soul of the Sea (Mp3)

Good choice. I love this album and I think you've probably chosen the best five songs. I've considered featuring it as a 'guilty pleasure' loads of times (they're not considered hip by the post punk crowd over here). I gave up on them after the disappointing Dog & Butterfly album and never really liked their 80s power ballads but Dreamboat Annie is a classic.

Thanks! I agree that this has to be their best work. Although I'm not a fan of any power ballads, seeing "Alone" performed live was pretty sweet as Ann's voice was just phenomenal. Definitely a guilty pleasure but one I'm not ashamed to admit to!

I saw that package tour coming through and debated going... but didn't.
Cheap Trick would've been my impetus for it, but I've seen them, like, 20 times. It's always a great show. You always know you saw Cheap Trick because they were so... Cheap Trick!!!
I first heard Heart during the lazy-80s-hazy-ballad era, so they've never held much sway with me, though I know they rock with a capital RAWK back in their heyday (ever heard their version of the Zep's "Rock and Roll"? It's like the song was written for them.)
Journey? Meh... at best.
But thanks for posting up these tunes... aside from "Magic Man" and "Crazy On You" I don't think I've heard any of them... Yet.
Thanks again.

Oh yeah- and comparisons to Robert Plant? Really? That's quite a serious compliment. What a lucky girl! :)
